EPIC
SEEKS ADJUNCT PROFESSORS
The
Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC) seeks an adjunct
professor(s) to teach and/or team teach its Energy Law and Policy
course for the fall 2008.
Qualifications
Eligible
candidates should be licensed attorneys with experience in energy
law or a related field and knowledge of emerging greenhouse gas
regulations.
Course
Description
Recognizing
the increasing importance of energy and its role in global climate
change, EPIC's Energy Law and Policy course introduces students to
the legal, regulatory and environmental concepts relevant to the
changing electricity and natural gas industries in the United
States. The course examines the historical and legal origins of
energy regulation and ratemaking as well as provides an
introduction to the natural gas and electrical industries,
including basic terms and concepts, regulatory trends and emerging
issues. The course explores the rise of competition in both
industries, covers California's energy crisis of 2000-2001 and its
aftermath, and studies trends in renewable and distributed
electricity generation. By reviewing the landmark 2007 U.S.
Supreme Court decision of Massachussetts
v. EPA and
significant climate change-related legislation such as
California's Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32), the course
examines the rapidly evolving regulation of greenhouse gas
emissions at both the state and federal levels.
While previous courses have been offered through EPIC and course materials exist, there is some level of flexibility in the course content and format. For more details on the version of the course offered in fall 2007, including a detailed syllabus, please visit the EPIC Web site .
