SDRES Members and Friends
Announcing the Wednesday, Nov. 12 San Diego Renewable Energy Society program.
You are invited to a presentation of the first comprehensive accounting of greenhouse gases in San Diego County. Because California is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, it is important to understand the sources of these gases, and to see what can be done to reduce them. EPIC has recently completed an assessment of San Diego’s greenhouse gases. This presentation will contribute to SDRES’s development of a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Scott Anders will present the findings of the recently released San Diego County Greenhouse Gas Inventory. The project is the first comprehensive accounting of greenhouse gas emissions in the County. The presentation will include a discussion of the sources of emissions in the region from 1990-2006, projections through 2020, and strategies to meet the targets included in AB 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006.
Mr. Anders is the Director of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC), an academic and research center of the University of San Diego School of Law. He joined EPIC in October 2005 as its inaugural director and has since developed both its academic and research programs. Mr. Anders’ work at EPIC has focused on regulatory and policy issues relating to the development of efficient and low-carbon energy. Recent projects include a comparison of the San Diego region with regions with emerging clean technology industry clusters and a greenhouse gas inventory for the San Diego region. Prior to joining EPIC, Mr. Anders was director of policy and planning at the California Center for Sustainable Energy, where he managed legislative and regulatory activities. He also worked as a researcher for a Washington D.C. policy think tank and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa. He holds an M.A. in public policy, with a concentration in environmental policy, from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.
The presentation will be at the California Center for Sustainable Energy, 8690 Balboa Avenue, Suite #100. This is two blocks east of Hwy 163 on the north side of Balboa. The program starts at 7pm, and runs until 8 or 8:30.
