San Diego Renewable Energy Society

Greetings!

You are invited to join the San Diego Renewable Energy Society (SDRES) on Wednesday, November 10th, at 7pm to hear Jim Backman speak about Net Zero Energy Housing.

Bio for Jim Backman:
Jim is a local leader in the renewable energy contracting business, and a 3rd generation plumber. In fact, his father, a veteran plumber of 40+ years is now working for him. After attending San Diego State University Jim moved to Colorado where he worked in radiant floor heating for 9 years. He returned to San Diego in 2001 and began working for Mariner Mechanical, a radiant floor heating installation company, and bought out the firm in 2005. Jim saw the advantages of incorporating renewable technologies along with radiant floor heating and incorporated the company Adroit Solar in 2007. Adroit Solar has become the largest commercial solar hot water installer in San Diego, recently completing a 90 collector installation. With the inclusion of PV panels and geothermal ground source heat systems, Adroit Solar is now Adroit Energy & Design and works with clients, general contractors, and business owner to create net zero energy projects.

Bio for Katy Hamilton:
Katy attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts and worked for an architecture firm in Boston for 2 years before obtaining her Master's Degree in Architecture from University of Texas at Austin. She then spent 12 years working for Rob Quigley Architects here in San Diego. Katy specialized in sustainable buildings, which included working as project architect for the San Diego Children's Museum. One of the highlights of the Children's Museum is the natural ventilation system for the building that does not use mechanical heating or cooling that Katy designed in conjunction with Professor Paul Linden at UCSD. Katy began working with Jim Backman at Adroit in 2010 and now heads up the design division of the company working with clients on renewable energy systems for their buildings.
