Sustainability Tour Partner, Solar Ambassador and Volunteer Recognition Day
WHEREAS, business and community organizers, such as the nonprofit San Diego Renewable Energy Society (SDRES), have been coordinating efforts to showcase the benefits of solar energy solutions to the San Diego community; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego Sustainability Tour features a "Sweet 16" of open house tours of the solutions businesses and households are employing to save money and live more sustainably; and
WHEREAS, the 13th San Diego Sustainability Tour has expanded the scope of its annual tour to include a 'reduce before you produce' philosophy that showcases the importance of energy efficiency as well as solar energy solutions; and
WHEREAS, these open house tours have inspired thousands of San Diegans over the years by showing how today's energy innovations can slash utility bills, improve property values, and provide a hedge against rising energy costs; and
WHEREAS, increasing energy efficiency and solar options creates quality jobs that reinforce San Diego's role as a national leader in today's Clean Energy Economy; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego Sustainability Tour would not be possible without the collective efforts of the volunteer site hosts, solar ambassadors, sponsors, non-profit and industry association partners who contributed to the success of this year's tour;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, TODD GLORIA, the Interim Mayor of the City of San Diego, do hereby proclaim October 9, 2013 to be "Sustainability Tour Partner, Solar Ambassador and Volunteer Recognition Day" and urge residents throughout the region to learn how energy efficiency adoption can help them cut energy costs and contribute to a cleaner, more economically-vibrant San Diego.
